Tarpaper Roofs by Jerry Wilson
I like to add texture to the roofs of my passenger cars and my buildings. The quick and easy way to do this is to buy some medical ,'paper' tape*. It can be purchased where band aids are sold. It comes in a roll & dispenser similar to that of scotch tape. To get the 4" wide (scale inches) pieces that will go on the ends of a clerestory roof, just pull some tape off, stick it to a clean cutting surface, and make some long slices. Overlap these strips on the end of the roof, starting from the edges and work toward the middle, the last piece covers the center two pieces of tape. Trim off excess with a Sharp Xacto blade. The rest of the strips are about 2' wide, and placed cross-wise to the earlier end pieces. These are also over lapped and are started from the ends, working toward the middle. And again, the last piece covers the center two pieces of tape. Trim off excess with Sharp Xacto blade.
Any kind of model paint or spray lacquer can be used to paint the tape. Quick and easy. If you have any questions about this or other modeling issues, please email or call me.
