Monthly Model Contest

   The BMRC holds a model competition at each monthly meeting.  All members are encouraged to submit a model and all models are judged by the members and guests in attendance.  Winners receive ribbons and points toward a "Modeler of the Year" award.  Two categories are available for entry:  "kit-based" entries, and  "scratch-built" models.  Members may enter one or both tiers each month.  (For a complete listing of the rules and contest topics, click on Rules and Topics.)

   This is a friendly competition, with the main purpose of encouraging model building and learning from the works of others.  It is also one of the eagerly anticipated parts of each meeting, as all members enjoy viewing the models created by their peers.

Contest topics for 2008

January:       Freight cars.

February:       Track structures (bridges, trestles, over/under pass, etc.)

March:       Open

April:       Off-line structures (houses, stores, etc.)

May:       Railroad owned structures.

June:       Open

July:       MOW equipment, including cabooses.

August:       Locomotive servicing (water/coal/sand towers, etc.)

September:       Open.

October:       Industries served directly by railroad.

November:       Passenger rolling stock.

December:       Open

   We invite models that are "in progress," models that were built many years ago, or models that just don't fit our two categories to be displayed at our Show and Tell Table.  These models are not judged and you are invited to describe what you have brought.
